Denver was named the best city for thrifting in the US by StorageCafe — and it earns it. The secondhand market here is genuinely exceptional, built on a combination of a young, eco-conscious population, a strong arts scene, and the density of independent stores that South Broadway and the surrounding neighbourhoods have built over decades.
The scene splits into two clear tiers: the curated vintage boutiques (Strawberry Mountain, Fever Dream, Garage Sale Vintage, Common Collective) which are creative destinations in their own right; and the high-volume charity stores (Arc, Goodwill, Soul Dog, Red White & Blue) where the prices are low and the turnover is high enough to reward regular visits. Denver also hosts ThriftCon annually — an indoor thrift market with 140+ vendors — worth checking if you time your visit right.
Before you go
Winner of Denver's Best of Denver award for Best Thrift Store in 2023 and Best Local Fashion Newsletter in 2025, Strawberry Mountain is the city's most-loved independent vintage shop. Small but punchy — shoe corner, racks of tops, dresses lining the walls, accessories throughout. They buy, sell, and trade across all clothing eras, and stock a free Blockbuster-style movie box for customers to borrow from. The candy jar at the checkout (hard strawberry candy) has become a signature detail. Located on Santa Fe Drive in the Arts District.
Opened by Veronica Desangles in 2022 near City Park, Fever Dream won Best Vintage Clothing Store at the 2025 Best of Denver awards. Unusually, stock is organised by decade and category rather than type — making it genuinely easy to navigate. Decorated with colourful vintage artwork and filled with vintage pins, jewellery, knick-knacks, vinyl, and matchbooks alongside the clothing. In 2025 Fever Dream expanded into the neighbouring unit at 2903 East Colfax, creating one large connected vintage space. Worth extra time.
The Denver flagship of the Nashville-born concept — browse curated vintage clothing and vinyl while drinking margaritas from a full-service bar and catching live music. Garage Sale opened its Larimer Square location five years ago and has since expanded to a second Denver site on South University Boulevard, plus locations in Boulder, Nashville (two), and New York City. Happy hour runs Monday to Friday 3–7pm. A vintage shop, not a thrift — prices reflect the curation. One of Denver's most original shopping experiences.
A Black and woman-owned sustainable fashion store in Capitol Hill, founded in 2021 by Tristan Bego and Jenny Neal. The Common Collective carries colourful, unique, and gender-neutral vintage clothing and accessories — carefully curated and community-oriented. The owners are heavily involved in Denver's thrift and sustainable fashion scene, regularly hosting after-hours events and appearing at pop-ups including the annual ThriftCon. If you want to support a store with genuine community roots, this is it.
Locally beloved for its extremely low prices and big heart, Soul Dog Rescue & Humane Society's Thrift Store on South Broadway donates all proceeds to supporting animal rescue and Englewood's homeless community. A tiny shop with a genuine mission — clothing, housewares, and bric-a-brac at prices that make it feel like a donation exercise. The South Broadway location puts it in easy reach of several other vintage spots, making it a natural first or last stop on a Broadway thrift day.
The South Broadway Goodwill is a Denver thrift institution — two full floors of goods with a large furniture section, vast clothing racks, and a parking lot that actually has space (a rarity downtown). The location on West Archer Place puts it in walking distance of several vintage spots on South Broadway, making it ideal to combine into a single thrift trip. The Showcase Stage is located here during the Underground Music Showcase festival each summer.
Arc Thrift is the quintessential Colorado thrift chain — 50+ locations across the state, all Colorado-owned and operated, with proceeds supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arvada location near West 59th is the most recommended for clothing. Broad selection of clothing, toys, and housewares at very low prices. A 50% off every Saturday promotion makes it particularly worthwhile mid-week scouting before a Saturday haul.
Formerly known as Mile High Thrift, Red White & Blue has been a Denver thrift institution since 1990. Known for designer blazers, good shoes, one-of-a-kind homeware, and a surprisingly strong vintage section for a charity store. No fitting rooms, but 50% off deals run every day of the week on rotating categories. If you're willing to make the drive to South Sheridan and spend a few hours digging, the return rate is high. Bring a friend, a cart, and reusable bags.
